Colonel Harvey C. “Barney” Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret.) papers
Abstract
Papers of Harvey C. “Barney” Barnum, Jr., from Cheshire, Connecticut, primarily documenting him receiving the Medal of Honor (Vietnam War), his career in the U.S. Marine Corps as well as his work advocating for veterans. The papers of Colonel Harvey C. Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret.), a 1962 graduate of Saint Anselm College, include correspondence, military orders, scrapbooks, clippings, photographs, ephemera, and a variety of audio-visual materials including copies of interviews from local and national programs. The earliest material documents his time in the Boy Scouts of America. Some of the correspondence includes letters and cards of appreciation from elementary schools. The papers also contain materials on the announcement, christening, and commissioning of the USS Harvey C. Barnum, Jr. (DDG 124) and the dedication of Barnum Elementary School (Cheshire, CT).
